There are hundreds
of amazing
beaches in
Italy, since the country is a peninsula extending into the
Mediterranean Sea. Tourists come from all over the world to experience
Italy’s thousands of miles of beaches for sunbathing, water
sports, and spa treatments.
Summer is the most wonderful time to visit
the Italian beaches. While the rest of Italy is baking in the sun, the
coastal areas are blessed with a sea breeze that takes the edge off the
heat. In addition, environmental groups have rated almost every beach,
so you are sure to find that most of them are clean and well cared-for.
The Italian Riviera – an extension
of the famous French Riviera – is home to fabulous
temperatures and crystal clear waters. It has the added benefit of
lacking the huge tourist crowds that are attracted to the French
version.
Amazing rocky hillsides overlook soft, sandy
beaches, perfect
for lounging all day. Picturesque towns and villages dot the coast, and
you can drive, sail, or take a train from one to another for an amazing
day trip.
Some of the most famous beaches in Italy are
on the island of Sardinia. In addition to its incredible lounging
beaches, Sardinia is a must-visit location for boaters.
The Coast of Genoa, although not as popular
for lounging on sand, is an incredible area to explore. Back alleys,
tiny piazzas, and famous landmarks make this city one of the more
interesting places you’ll ever visit.
The Amalfi Coast, with the town of Amalfi as
its main center, is a famous stretch of coast with several great
resorts. It is steeped in history and has a lot of great towns to
explore.
Throughout Italy, you will probably find a
choice between free beaches and beaches for which you pay admittance.
The free beaches are the most crowded, and the least well kept. Most
coastal hotels and resorts will probably have private beaches for their
guests. If you don’t have this option, you may want to visit
a beach where you can rent a beach chair and umbrella.
The beaches in Italy are among the most
gorgeous in the world, offering opportunities for relaxation, fun, and
excitement.
