If you are looking
to travel to somewhere
with rich history, fantastic
architecture, and beautiful people, you should visit Rome. During my
Italy
tours, Rome
was one of my favorite places because of these
aspects. There are so many great places of historical significance
that made this city magical for me.
It is an amazing feeling to walk into a
building that is over 2,000
years old. For example, when I entered the coliseum in Rome, I could
only imagine the types of events that were held there: gladiator
fights, massacres, and executions. In some way, it is an eerie
feeling to stand in a place where terrible things had happened.
Another must see location is the Sistine
Chapel in St. Peter's
Basilica. The basilica itself is an amazing place to visit. (Tip: If
you are female, make sure that you have either long pants or a skirt,
or you will not be permitted to enter the site.)
I believe I had
whiplash by the time I left the Sistine Chapel! I couldn't help but
admire Michelangelo's work on the ceiling for over three hours. Not
only are the paintings inspiring and beautiful, but the history behind
Michelangelo's work is very interesting.
The Vatican Museum, in general, has great
pieces of art. There are
works by many famous artists: Caravaggio, da Vinci, Fra Angelico,
Giotto, Raphael, Poussin, Titian, and others. You could spend hours
of your Italy tours, roaming the museums of Vatican City.
Around the city, there are great plazas and
fountains. On a hot
summer day, it would be a great idea to buy a yummy gelato and soak
your feet in one of Rome's famous fountains. You can bask in the sun
while enjoying the beautiful statuesque fountains. One of my personal
favorites is the Fontana di Nettuno.
Please enjoy your Italy tours! There are
magnificent things to see
and visit when you are in Italy, especially Rome.
